Darling readers, can we give you some advice on how to make book club better? Two ideas here: 1. Do it with us, virtually! 2. Add witches! You’re all invited to Heart.Wants.Books.’s Virtual Book Club on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 7:30pm Central Time where we’ll discuss Alice Hoffman’s The Rules of Magic. Please sign up here. Festive hats, décor, and beverages are encouraged for our witchy book club!
And now we welcome you, patient readers, to a special back to school month theme at Heart.Wants.Books! We have thoroughly enjoyed our lemonade summer and are now going to get back to business. The business of reading books by people of color, books of the nonfiction variety, and books written by men. (Please note that next month is witches and therefore these business things will be out the window, yet again. #SorryNotSorry) This September we are reading authors of Hispanic/Latinx heritage, as National Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15. While it does continue until October 15, as stated before, we will be transitioning to witches on October 1. We feel like starting to celebrate such a rich cultural heritage early is well worth making Ashley’s Enneagram One-ness twitch. Unsurprisingly, we started a bit earlier than today since we started with last Thursday’s post, and will proceed with the other titles listed below! We hope you join us in reading:
We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
Our Last Days in Barcelona by Chanel Cleeton
The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
What are you looking forward to reading and celebrating in September?
~ Ashley and Nikki
