For the third year in a row here at Heart.Wants.Books., we are celebrating Black History Month during February by highlighting books written by Black Authors. Last year we focused on YA novels and that burned Ashley out for YA titles for the rest of the year. It was a struggle. This year we’ve balanced our genres and our authors quite a bit better, but our excitement about these titles is definitely not balanced, in the best way possible.
You’ve already read our first review of the month, Seven Days in June, a romance book about two Black authors reconnecting 15 years after their tryst in high school. Bloodmarked is the second in a YA Fantasy series that we ADORED and reviewed last February (DO NOT skip #1 Legendborn). Our final title is Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, which I was introduced to by the Man Enough Podcast and the title has been sitting on my TBR ever since. As a bonus, this title is currently available for free through KindleUnlimited.
We hope that you’re choosing to diversify your reading life this month and picking up at least one additional title written by a Black author and featuring a BIPOC main character.
Who are your favorite Black authors so that we can read their works with you?
~Ashley & Nikki
Seven Days in June by Tia Williams
Bloodmarked (The Legendborn Cycle #2) by Tracy Deonn
Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man by Emmanuel Acho
