Jane in January January 6, 2020
Things you should know about us (if you haven’t figured it out already):
- We love books,
- We love Anne Bogel, and
- We love romance novels.
When Ashley received an email about the 2019 summer plans for the Modern Mrs. Darcy book club, she was all in with the weekly activities and list of titles and scheduled conversations. I was excited too because I’d already read The Gown and love Pride and Prejudice. Two books I had already read and enjoyed and my book buddy and lots of other people want to talk about them, yes please. Then, Ashley said she hadn’t read Pride and Prejudice. Ever. So, we had a new book on our buddy TBR list, and we decided to deep dive the books, then swim some laps in the media pool. That is how Jane in January was born.
For 2020, we’re going to spend most of the month talking about Pride and Prejudice. Not just the Jane Austen novel, but we’ll have a post on film adaptations, and we’ll have some P&P adjacent book recommendations as well. If you like retellings from different points of view, sequels, and/or modern retellings, we will have something for you! We hope they’ll be something for most readers this month, a classic, historical fiction, contemporary fiction, mystery, and, of course, romance.
Are we planning to revisit Jane Austen every January? No, but we are planning on doing something with a Jane or Janes. January 2020 could be considered Jane Austen or Jane Bennett and I don’t have strong feelings either way. Next year we could go Jane Eyre, Jane Gray, more Jane Austen, or perhaps Jane Ashford or Jane Hawking. We don’t have plans yet, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know in the comments. We’d love to have your help in adding to our TBR lists AND selecting titles we’ll read and discuss here.
And, just because, what’s a classic you’ve never read but want to, or one you’d like us to discuss? Share and perhaps your favorite title (or the one you think you should read) will make it to our TBRs and a future post!
