Darling readers, we’ve had a grand celebration of women with this month’s reading life and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. We’ve reviewed some really great books, including two Advanced Review Copies that we highly suggest, and we’ve lived our best Kindle Unlimited lives too. The titles I’ve read are a celebration of women in their own way, many of them through healing and finding their own way with the help of a little love and support. In light of the tragedies, the rhetoric, and the polarization, I want to challenge us all to find the love and support in the world around us.
Ashley and I have both acknowledged that our comfort reads are romance, and you can look at my list and see I needed a lot of comfort this month. It’s a busy season for me and some of these titles were comfortable, predictable, and exactly what I needed in the moment. Others were very engaging and very emotional at times, and I’ve enjoyed them all in some way.
I don’t have a particular title that I want to call out this month. In many ways, each title was about healing, and moving forward as best as the character was able. I want to encourage all of you darling readers to read what brings you joy and not let anyone else yuck on your yum. Books are valuable for what they bring to us and comfort is definitely very valuable. If that is what you are seeking, I hope you find a comfort read that speaks to you. When you do, because I’m confident you can, please share it with us in the comments.

I can not tell you, darling readers, how absolutely ecstatic I was to FINALLY get finished with Limitless this month. It was a buddy read (of sorts) with my accountability group and I just kept putting off the final few chapters. I kept putting it off since January because what I really wanted to do was read smut from my KU subscription – which I did and brings me joy and comfort, comfort and joy… It’s my year of JOY and so that’s what I’m going to focus on.
Romance brings me joy because of its predictability and focus on female pleasure and growth. Advance Review Copies bring me joy because I get to read books before the general public. Traveling on a short and sweet Mommy-Daughter trip with my mama and sister also brings me joy and also puts our Reading Life Review schedule on a bit of a hiccup. And my book buddy brings me joy because she puts up with my grump and my dirty book habits and in general shares life with me.
2023 is supposed to be my year of JOY and stupid people and tragic circumstances and grief filled friends keep giving me the emotional struggles. So I fall deeply into the tried and true coping mechanism of reading and watching things that allow me to get lost in them. Hello, the reason I struggled for months to finish with the two nonfiction books I have been working on reading since January. I have also watched the entirety of The Last of Us with my handsome zaddy Pedro Pascal. If you don’t love him we might not be able to be friends. Only kind of kidding.
What is the thing that’s helping you cope with life right now?
~Ashley
