Darling readers, for better or worse, the titles we selected to read and review for you during the first quarter were a bit of a situation. While we definitely still adore YA as a genre, as grown ups, we should have known better than to binge read this particular genre, even with some additional parameters in place. So, to follow that up, and as a form of recovery, you’re about to find out what we read when no one is watching, AND we’re going to read, hopefully with you, When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole, and discuss it together on Friday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. CDT. See what I did there? Yes, more ridiculous puns, bookish antics, and also a delightful discussion will ensue for those who sign up here to get the link to our Virtual Book Club conversation!
Did I bury the lead? Perhaps, but my statement stands, mostly. What do we read when no one is watching? Whatever. We. Want. So, that’s what we’re planning to bring you this month for April. We’ve had a lot of titles that were on theme, and also beaucoup YA so far in 2022. April is going to find us reading and reviewing some titles that have been on our TBR for at least a bit, have also been staring at us from it, and screaming that it’s their turn. Darling titles, we hear you, and we’re announcing it’s your turn, so come on down! We hold a season pass for one author on our list and follow another on #bookstagram because she is an absolute delight and we want to support her debut novel. (Bonus: her sophomore title was released just last week!) We reviewed another author way back in September 2020. And finally, we’re wrapping up the month with a non-fiction title with an evergreen message. Additionally, we think this smattering of titles make for great rainy day reading, because, well, April showers should, theoretically, be upon us soon. That means we need to be prepared with engaging titles to occupy us during any rainy day that may present us with the opportunity to curl up with a good book.
We hope you’ll enjoy reading our reviews of:
Bring Your Baggage and Don’t Pack Light: Essays by Helen Ellis
The Guide by Peter Heller (yes, the follow up to The River)
The Romanov Oracle by Molly Tullis
What do you have in your reading plans for this supposedly rainy month?
